Search for "best paid community platform" and most results surface LaunchPass, Whop, Patreon, and a handful of Discord-first tools. Good products. But open the payout page on any of them: bank transfers go to US accounts, currency is USD, and WhatsApp does not appear anywhere.
Before you read any feature list, two questions are worth asking first.
Can the platform pay out to your local bank account without a foreign account or a currency workaround? And does it support WhatsApp?
If either answer is no, the features do not matter much. Across Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, and South Africa, WhatsApp is where communities live. Telegram is growing, but WhatsApp is the default. If you cannot get paid to your own bank account without routing through Payoneer or a US account, the platform has not solved the actual problem.

Memberlet
Built specifically for African creators charging for Telegram and WhatsApp communities.
Payments go through Paystack. Members pay by card, bank transfer, or USSD in their local currency, and the money lands in your local bank account with no foreign account or conversion step. You price in naira or cedis, and that is what members pay and what you receive.
WhatsApp and Telegram are both supported from the same offer. When a member pays, they are added to the group. When their subscription lapses, they are removed. None of this requires any action from you.
No fixed monthly fee. You pay a percentage per transaction, so a slow month costs you nothing.
LaunchPass
A solid platform for Discord, Slack, and Telegram communities. The automation works and the setup is straightforward. The problem is that it runs exclusively on Stripe, and African creators cannot receive Stripe payouts to a local bank account without registering a business in a country where Stripe operates fully.
No WhatsApp support either, and the cost is $29 a month before a single subscriber pays you. At current exchange rates that is over ₦45,000 a month in fixed cost. With 20 members paying ₦5,000 each, your fixed platform overhead is 45% of your revenue before transaction fees.

Whop
Primarily a Discord marketplace that has expanded into other formats. The same Stripe payout issue applies: no direct payouts to African bank accounts without a workaround. No WhatsApp support. Paid plans start at $29 a month.
Worth evaluating if you run a Discord community, have a foreign bank account, and your members pay in dollars. Not the right fit if your community is on WhatsApp or Telegram and you collect in local currency.
Patreon
Patreon is a content platform, not a group access tool. Members subscribe to receive posts, videos, and podcasts hosted inside the Patreon app. There is no connection to Telegram or WhatsApp, so you manage group access yourself. Payouts to Nigerian creators go through Payoneer or a US bank account. Platform fees are between 8% and 12% per transaction depending on the plan.

Selar
The strongest digital product platform for African creators. Ebooks, courses, templates, one-off coaching — Selar handles digital delivery well with Paystack integration and local bank payouts.
It does not manage recurring community memberships. No Telegram integration, no WhatsApp connection, no automatic removal when a subscription lapses. For digital products, it is a good fit. For a recurring paid group, it is not built for that.
