How to Set Up a Paid Telegram Community in Under 10 Minutes

If you have an active Telegram group, you already have the hardest part figured out — an audience that shows up. Turning that into recurring revenue is simpler than most creators think.

This guide walks you through exactly how to do it using Memberlet, from creating your first page to watching members auto-join your group after payment.

    Why Telegram for paid communities?

Telegram is where the most engaged communities live today — it crossed 900 million monthly active users globally in 2024, with particularly strong adoption across Africa. Unlike WhatsApp, it supports large groups, channels, bots, and proper admin controls. Unlike Discord, it works everywhere without a desktop app. For creators in Nigeria and across Africa, Telegram is the default.

The problem has always been the payment layer. How do you charge for access? How do you remove someone who stops paying? How do you manage it without doing it manually?

    That's exactly what Memberlet solves.

Step 1: Create your Memberlet account

Head to memberlet.com and sign up with your email. You'll receive a 6-digit OTP — enter it, and you're in.

During onboarding, you'll be asked to name your workspace. This becomes your public creator URL (e.g. memberlet.com/c/yourname).

Step 2: Connect your payout account

Before you can accept payments, you need to connect a payout account. Go to Payouts in your dashboard, add your bank details, and earnings go directly there.

Step 3: Connect your Telegram bot

This is the part that makes everything automatic. Memberlet uses a Telegram bot to add and remove members from your group based on their subscription status.

    1. Go to Resources → Telegram in your dashboard
    2. Follow the on-screen steps to link your Telegram account
    3. Add the Memberlet bot as an admin of your group
    4. The bot will appear in your dashboard once it detects admin access

The bot needs admin permissions to invite and remove members. It doesn't read messages.

Step 4: Create your membership page

Go to Pages → Create Page and fill in:

    • Title — what is this community about?
    • Description — who is it for and what will they get?
    • Pricing — set your subscription price and billing period, or offer a free tier

Under What's Included, attach your Telegram group. Members who purchase will automatically receive an invite link to join.

    Step 5: Publish and share

Hit Publish. You'll get a shareable link — something like memberlet.com/c/yourname/your-community.

Share it anywhere: your Twitter bio, your existing Telegram channel, your Instagram stories. Anyone who clicks it can subscribe and get instant access.

What happens when a subscription expires?

If a member's card fails on renewal, Memberlet gives them a short grace period before removing them from the group. If they renew in time, nothing changes. If not, the bot quietly removes them — no awkward manual kicks from you. See how recurring payments and renewals work for the full billing cycle.

Tips for your first 30 days

    • Price higher than you think. Most creators underprice. If your community provides real value, ₦5,000/month is reasonable. See our community pricing guide for a full breakdown by community type.
    • Send a welcome message. When someone joins, send them a pinned message with what to expect and how to get the most out of the group.
    • Post consistently. The first 30 days set the tone. Post something valuable every 2–3 days.

That's it. Your paid Telegram community is live. The whole setup — from account creation to your first published page — takes under 10 minutes.
