How a Nigerian Creator Went From Drowning in DMs to ₦600k/Month on Autopilot

Adaeze was running a paid Telegram community at ₦8,000 per month and spending more time chasing payments than creating content. Here is what changed when she automated paid community management in Nigeria.

How a Nigerian Creator Went From Drowning in DMs to ₦600k/Month on Autopilot

In January, Adaeze had 43 paying members in her business coaching Telegram group at ₦8,000 per month.

On paper, that was ₦344,000. In practice, she was collecting closer to ₦280,000 because some people had not paid in six weeks and she had not gotten around to removing them. Her spreadsheet had not been updated since December. Her banking app had 34 unread notifications she was using as a running payment log.

Every Sunday evening, she sat down to reconcile the week. She would open her banking app, scroll through the transactions, match names to her member list, and try to figure out who owed what. It took two to three hours. She never fully trusted the numbers when she was done.

Her content output that month: two posts. She had planned twelve.

The moment something had to change

The tipping point was a Tuesday afternoon. She sat down to write a lesson on pricing strategy and spent the first forty minutes responding to payment DMs instead.

One member had paid but was not in the group. Another had been removed but said she had paid and sent a screenshot. A third wanted to know if she could pay in installments. By the time Adaeze opened her notes to actually write, she was too drained to think clearly.

She closed the laptop and went for a walk.

On that walk, she worked out what was actually happening. She was running two jobs: a business coaching community and a payment processing operation. The second one was eating the first.

She had looked at tools before and dismissed them because she thought the setup would be complicated, or because she did not want to pay a monthly fee for software when she was already doing the work herself. That afternoon, she decided the work itself was too expensive to keep doing.

What setting up automation actually looked like

To automate a paid community in Nigeria, Adaeze needed one afternoon.

She created her membership page with her community description and her ₦8,000 monthly price. She connected her Telegram group by adding the Memberlet bot as an admin. She linked her bank account for payouts. She tested the checkout flow herself by going through it as a new member.

The whole thing took about ninety minutes.

She sent a message to her existing members explaining that renewals would now happen through a new link. She gave them a week to switch over. Most of them did it within two days.

The first night after the migration, a new member joined her community. Adaeze found out from a notification the next morning. She had not done anything. The person had paid, received an invite link, and joined the group. The payment was already in her Memberlet balance waiting to be withdrawn.

She described it as a strange feeling. "I kept waiting for the DM," she said.

What changed in the months after

    She got her Sundays back.

The two to three hours she had been spending on payment reconciliation went into writing. In February, she published nine lessons. In March, eleven. Her members noticed. Engagement in the group went up. Several of them started sharing her content with their own networks.

New members started joining at a pace she had not seen before, because she was actually showing up consistently. By April, she had 58 paying members. By June, 75.

At ₦8,000 per month, 75 members is ₦600,000.

She stopped losing six to eight hours every month to admin work and put that time into what people were actually paying for. Better content kept members longer. Members told other people. Going from 43 to 75 in five months is not a growth hack; it is what happens when the work you were already doing stops getting interrupted.

The other thing that changed: her renewal rate. When she was managing manually, some members would let their subscriptions lapse simply because renewing meant sending another bank transfer and waiting for her to confirm it. With Memberlet, renewal is automatic for members who save their card. Her churn dropped noticeably in the first two months.

What she would tell someone still managing manually

Most creators who stay on manual management say switching feels like one more thing on an already full list. The setup is not the obstacle it looks like. Most creators finish their Memberlet configuration in an afternoon.

The harder part is recognizing that the spreadsheet you built and the system that mostly works is also the thing capping your growth. Every hour on payment admin is an hour away from content, and content is what brings members.

Adaeze is at ₦600,000 per month now. She publishes content three times a week. Her Sundays are free.

Set up your paid community on Memberlet and let the platform handle payments, access, and renewals while you focus on the work your members are actually paying for.
